Five tips to ensure a successful CICA claim

Home » News & Knowledge » Five tips to ensure a successful CICA claim

CICA claims have a number of crucial factors which can affect their success. If you are unaware of these issues, you could have your claim rejected and be barred from receiving any compensation.

Below are the top tips we would advise you follow to help ensure your claim will be successful.

    Ensure a successful CICA claim

    1. You do not receive any criminal convictions

If you receive a criminal conviction during your claim, this can cause the claim to be rejected even if the conviction is not related to the claim at all.

Alongside this, if you get in trouble with the police and they need to decide what conviction to give you, this will cause your claim to be put on hold until this is decided. This will seriously impact how long it takes for you to receive compensation.

    1. You respond to requests for information promptly

The CICA will reject your claim if you do not provide them with the evidence they have requested within a reasonable time scale. If you are having trouble obtaining the information, the CICA will need to be made aware of this.

    1. You fully co-operate with the police throughout the whole claim process

You must co-operate with the police fully through their investigations. This includes: making a statement, pressing charges where possible and attending court where requested.

You cannot retract statements or refuse to engage with the police in any respect otherwise the CICA will reject your claim. This can happen at any stage of the claim process.

    1. You continue seeking treatment for your injuries if necessary

The CICA can only make awards for injuries where there is medical evidence to support them. If you are experiencing any continuing or new issues with your injuries, you must inform your GP or hospital.

If you do not inform anyone about the issues you are having, the CICA will not be able to establish that you are experiencing them and you could miss out on compensation.

    1. You are honest with your legal representative

If you do not honestly advise your representative they cannot properly assist you. If you make your representative aware of all the facts relevant to your claim, they can advise you how to avoid any issues and hopefully ensure the claim will be successful.
