High Stress Levels Amongst GP Practice Managers Mean over Two-Thirds Are On the Verge Of Quitting
Many of those surveyed stated that this was adversely impacting upon their health and that they had no work-life balance.
Carole Cusack Director of Primary Care at Wesseck LMC said ‘The LMC has been shocked by the number of calls it has received from worried and stressed practice managers together with the high numbers taking sick leave or resigning’.
The belief is that Practice Managers are not receiving adequate support from their GP partners because the General Practitioners are also suffering with increased workloads and work related stress.
BMA Deputy chairman Dr Chand advised that ‘We are seeing a morale dip to a level that I cannot remember seeing in my 35 years as a GP’.
There is a concern that Politicians do not understand the rising patient demand and the increased demands of the Care Quality Commission. The government have been criticised by leading professionals for transferring a greater number of services from hospital care to community care without allocating additional resources to support this additional pressure.
Tom Borwnlie Chief Executive office at AMSPAR (Association of Medical Secretaries Practice Managers Administrators and Receptionists) fears that this situation will continue to deteriorate as resources will continue to reduce.
