200 People Injured in a Pile-up in Kent of More Than 100 Vehicles

Nearly 100 vehicles were involved in a collision on a Kent bridge due to mist this morning.
The incident occurred on the new Sheppey Crossing Bridge on the A249 early this morning. Police fire bridge and ambulance services attended the scene at 7.15 am to help the injured parties.
Police say that 8 people have been seriously injured in the incident.
Witnesses said that the fog severely affected visibility and claimed that drivers were only able to see around 20 yards and that other motorists were “driving like idiots” before the pile-up.
Reports have said that pile up lasted ten minutes and cars continuously collided with one another.
It has been confirmed that there have been no fatalities.
A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue service said:
“Crews are currently at the scene of a serious RTC (road traffic collision) involving up to 100 vehicles.
“There are no fatalities but ambulance crews are dealing with a large number of walking wounded casualties. Firefighters have used hydraulic cutting equipment to release five people from their vehicles.
“Crews are currently at the scene of a serious crash on the New Kingsferry Bridge (A429) in Sheppey involving multiple vehicles. Kent Police and a number of SECAmb (South East Cost Ambulance Service) ambulances are also in attendance.”
