Man Dies of Aneurysm After Being Told He Had Heartburn

Darren Hooper 42 died from a burst blood vessel in his heart after being sent home from hospital and given antacids for

    heartburn.
The inquest heard that the father of three collapsed at work was rushed to hospital and was then diagnosed with gastro-
oesophageal reflux and given Gaviscon as medicine on the 15th January 2012.
Doctors didn’t carry out a CT scan and therefore missed his leaky artery which was filling his chest up with blood.
24 hours later Mr Hooper collapsed at his home in Rushton Somerset and was rushed to hospital. He was pronounced dead on
the way to the hospital and died of a haemorrhage from a ruptured aortic aneurysm.
The Daily Mail reported that the Coroner had said that although the condition was rare for someone of Mr Hooper’s age not
enough consideration was given to his diagnosis.
