New Sentencing Guideline on Dangerous Dog Offences

    12:50, 18/3/2016

Home » News & Knowledge » New Sentencing Guideline on Dangerous Dog Offences

Yesterday the Sentencing Council released the revised sentencing guidelines for dangerous dog offences.

The revised guidelines give effect to amendments made to the Dangerous Dogs Act in 2014, specifically the amendment extending the maximum prison sentence to 14 years.

After the revised guidelines come into force on 1 July 2016, we are likely to see higher custodial sentences for offenders under the act.

In addition to criminal proceedings, it is important to remember that if you have been injured by a dog, or indeed any animal, you have the right to bring a claim for compensation against the animal’s owner under the Animals Act 1971 and other legislation.

If you have been the victim of an animal attack, Oakwood Solicitors can help you bring a claim for compensation. Contact our Personal Injury team on 0113 200 9720.
