According to new research by wellbeing charity CABA, four adults out of ten are on the verge of breaking point in the workplace.
In a survey quizzing 2,000 professionals, it was found that an average adult spends almost one-third of their working day experiencing some kind of stress. Over the course of the week, those surveyed would experience five hours of sleep loss a week due to feeling pressured or overburdened.
Such pressures include deadlines, out-of-hours emails, unreasonable managers or presentation preparation were some of the principle culprits.

In total, 7/10 adults had reportedly ranted to a loved one, colleague or friend, whereas complaining about their boss averaged 31 minutes per week. Role-related complaints statistically rack up well over 2.5 hours of an average week.
Almost half of those experiencing stress fail to act on it, preferring instead to hope the problem lessens over time.
38% of those who act on it tell their manager, whilst 51% will go for a walk to clear their head. 3/10 people have been reduced to tears at some point, whilst a shocking 1/5 people chose to hit the bottle to numb their feelings.
Complaining or venting does seem to have some beneficial effect, though – as 6/10 reported feeling better having done so. 3/5 of those surveyed said they felt stressed about holidays, as handovers can be demanding – as can events which transpire during their absence.
The CABA stated:
“If too much workplace pressure means stress reaches a level that you feel unable to even go to work, it’s time to make a change.
“The first, and often most difficult step can be to simply talk about it with someone, be it a colleague, manager or just a family member.
“Sometimes just acknowledging that you have too much on can start to address the stress.”
