When Dogs Attack – What To Do?

It is said that dogs are truly the man’s best friend and with their loving nature and playful temperament, often become a part of the family. It is therefore unfortunate when you encounter a dog that causes injury through dangerous behaviour. Some dog attacks can be severe, and recovery can take years of treatment.

    Case in the news

This was the case with a 5-year-old girl whose parents were looking at purchasing some bunk beds from a seller at her home, as advertised on Facebook. When visiting the seller’s home, the seller offered the little girl a drink downstairs, while her parents went to the bedroom to view the bunk beds.

Just minutes later, a scream came from downstairs where the seller’s dog, had mauled the little girl’s face leaving an open wound. An ambulance was called, and it was advised that she would be left with permanent scarring on her face.

What action should I take in the event of a dog attack?

After any incident involving a dog attack, you should contact the police right away. We also recommend obtaining the name and address of the dog owner, and if possible, obtain their pet insurance information. A claim for personal injury can be brought alongside a criminal claim.

    Can Oakwood Solicitors help?

Although we cannot reverse the unfortunate events, we can help with comforting the aftermath. We can bring a personal injury claim alongside a criminal claim if a similar event has happened to you, to cover any medical bills and provide compensation and ensure the animal is taken care of, to prevent anything like this happens again.
