In light of a huge increase, the general public has been urged not to request prescription medication before it is required.
Health officials in Shropshire have reminded people not to panic about the ongoing situation and request that people don’t order their repeat medication until seven days before they are due to run out of supplies.

This comes after prescription request lines in the area received a sevenfold increase in calls for medication requests. Response to demand increased from 2,000 to 15,000 requests in the week, an automated prescription email request system has been set up, which returns a simplified automatic reply should a patient not fill out enough information to process their request.
Shropshire’s Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) followed up with a statement on its website, which reads:
“We would like to remind people there is no need to stockpile medication, so please only order when you have seven days of medication left. Any inappropriate or early requests will not be processed.”
