You will have seen an increase in Will writing services offered Online, especially now during the lockdown when physically accessing legal services has been made difficult.
The Online services for making a Will will often declare that they can prepare your Will as a cheaper, easier, and quicker alternative to using a Solicitor. This type of service may be appropriate for a simple straightforward Will.
One common myth is that solicitors’ fees will keep increasing during the Will making process, however, many solicitors offer a fixed fee for the preparation of a Will and you will be advised from the outset what the fees will be.
If your instructions change and additional fees may be incurred, then you would be advised as such before any work is undertaken. Solicitors are required to be transparent with their fees.

Solicitors are regulated by the Solicitors Regulatory Authority and are under a duty to uphold a strict duty of care to their clients.
This gives you, the client, the confidence that you are dealing with professionals, and in the unlikely event that anything should go wrong, you have protection.
At Oakwood Solicitors we offer our clients a bespoke, personal service for the preparation of Wills.
Our normal procedure is to meet with our clients face-to-face at our initial meeting and when finalising their Wills to ensure that they completely understand the Will that they are signing and then supervise the signing of the Wills.
At this time, whilst our offices are closed for client meetings due to the Government restrictions in place, we offer various methods to ensure that the Wills prepared meet with the instructions provided by our clients and they fully understand the content, this can be by a telephone call or a video call as well as maintaining written contact by post or email. We respect the chosen method of our clients.
We are flexible in the sense that if you wish to make changes to your Will at any point in your instructions, then we can do so. We gather a full picture of your personal circumstances to ensure that the instructions you are giving protect you and your loved ones.
We ensure that the formalities of making a Will are followed and we keep full detailed attendance notes of your instructions and all subsequent meetings or telephone calls to ensure (as far as possible) that you are not under any coercion by third parties when making your Will. This again provides protection to you and your loved ones.
We have prepared additional guidance for the signing of Wills away from the office whilst social distancing to assist our clients in finalising their Wills.
Oakwood Solicitors can assist you through this process and provide you with the necessary advice. Our team has gained an excellent reputation amongst local organisations and their client-base for delivering a personal and compassionate service.
As a firm, we pride ourselves on having a high standard of customer service and making all our current and potential clients feel at ease when making any decisions regarding their future wishes.
You will have a dedicated advisor who will work through the Wills process with you from start to finish, assisting you in the event of any queries or issues you may have. Your advisor will also continue to provide regular updates until your final Will signing and then will send you reminders in future years should you need to modify your Will.
Once your Will has been signed, we can store your Original Will free of charge in our deed store department and provide you with a copy to keep with your personal documents. We will ensure the process is as stress-free and effortless as possible.
