75% of UK Office Workers Considering Quitting Due To Workplace Unhappiness

According to a survey reported in the press, three quarters of UK office workers questioned are considering leaving or changing their jobs due to various issues resulting from workplace unhappiness.

Burnout, poor work-life balance and toxic workplace culture were some of the factors cited, with over half of those polled experiencing low morale, whether working from home or office-based.

Almost one fifth believed that their workplace was “toxic”, with 18% saying that their bosses don’t have any regard for mental wellbeing and emotional matters.

    Workplace Unhappiness

The company behind the survey, Juno, concluded that the pandemic was a catalyst for a greater shift in perception, whereas business had previously stated that the working revolution was pushed in by the virus, creating a sentiment “greater than radical reform or regulation ever could have.”

Staff shortages were cited by around 40% of people according to the results, with operation at reduced capacity occurring as a result of people opting for a change of vocation. 30% of white-collar employers deemed themselves to be struggling to fill staff vacancies, with a further 13% estimating that this will become a problem in the not-too-distant future.

23% were acting on monetary grounds, where 58% have reported leaving a prior job due to their successive company promising to provide a better balance between work and home life, with improved child and healthcare perks.

64% of workers surveyed believed that bosses were doing all that could be done to address staff shortages, whereas 36% believed that complacency on behalf of managers was an issue, which could lead to further potential lack of morale as time goes forward.

Juno’s CEO commented on the findings:

“What is clear from these findings is that employees want control over their work-life balance, control and autonomy over the benefits they receive, and an end to the ‘at all costs’ approach to work which is leading to toxic workplaces and people suffering from low morale and motivation.

“Employees care about financial remuneration but protecting culture, benefits that work for the individual and work-life balance come up trumps.

“For any business looking to hire in this cutthroat jobs market, my advice to you is to make sure you’re coming not only on top regarding salary but on pastoral care and wellness too.”
