Gogglebox star George Gilbey, 40, has died after being involved in a fatal accident at work.

The TV star, who had also appeared on the 14th series of Big Brother in 2014, reportedly died following an accident at work on Wednesday which saw him ‘fall from a height’ while carrying out his job.

Essex Police confirmed they were called to an incident in Shoeburyness in Southend-on-Sea on Wednesday, where a man had died after falling from a height.

A spokesperson for the force said:

“We received a report of an incident at Campfield Road in Shoebury at around 10 am this morning (27 March), during which a man who was working at height had fallen and sustained an injury.”

“The ambulance service including air ambulance was in attendance. Sadly, the man died at the scene. We will continue liaising with partners including the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). A cordon remains in place at the scene.”

The 40-year-old joined Channel 4’s Gogglebox programme for its second series in 2013 before he and his family were dropped in 2014 after he signed up for Celebrity Big Brother. The family later returned to the series.

The reality star from Essex appeared on the then-Channel 5 reality show alongside celebrities including The Hills star Stephanie Pratt and American actor Gary Busey, who won the series.

A host of celebrities have paid tribute to the TV star, whom many have deemed a ‘friend’:

Former Geordie Shore star Ricci Guarnaccio, who appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2014 alongside Gilbey, paid tribute to the star on X, formerly Twitter. He said:

“Breaks my (heart) but you are well and truly (sic) going to be missed, my friend. Always lit up the room, cared for others & the memories we made I’ll cherish forever brother. From CBB to speaking to you last week, I’m going to hugely miss you”

Meanwhile, Sabrina Browning, a member of George’s family, shared her feelings on Instagram. She wrote a message saying:

“My heart is in absolute pieces, @georgegilbey you will be missed so much, no words can explain the kind and gentle heart you showed to all you loved and cared for, thank you for everything, rest in eternal paradise brother.”

On Wednesday evening, Gogglebox also posted a tribute to George on their social media, stating:

“George was part of the Gogglebox family for eight series alongside his mum Linda and step-dad Pete. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Linda and George’s family and friends at this very sad time. The family have asked for privacy.”

Gilbey’s representatives and the HSE have been approached for comment.
