Carol Cook and Jordan Van Sittert to appear on ITV News Tyne Tees!

Our Head of Medical Negligence, Carol Cook, and Paralegal Jordan Van Sittert are due to make an appearance on ITV News Tyne Tees today at 18:00.

Accompanied by our Head of Marketing, Kamile Banyte, Carol and Jordan have been asked to offer their professional insights to ITV News regarding the current state of the Kirklevington Detention Centre investigation, after it surpassed the twelve-year mark in April of 2026.

Having already entered its thirteenth year of investigation with no official update from Cleveland Police, it is disheartening that the last information anyone received regarding the matter dates back over a year ago, to the 5th of February 2026.

As our responsibility rests on keeping our Clients informed and updated as frequently as possible, it is frustrating for both them and us that we have to report back to them and say that, once again, there have been no further updates. The negative effect that this prolonged investigation is having on them cannot be understated.

ITV reached out to us after our appearance in a recent Northern Echo article, and we were very grateful of the opportunity to open the dialogue on this subject again on behalf of our many Clients.

    Jordan Van Sittert said:

“Having dealt with many Historic Abuse claims here at Oakwood Solicitors, it saddens us for the survivors of abuse at Kirklevington that they are being left in limbo compared to Eastwood Park and Medomsley Detention Centre survivors.

“As part of our ongoing support efforts, we regularly send email updates to our Clients about the current status of the Cleveland Police’s Kirklevington investigation. Sadly, in some cases we have received return correspondence from bereaved loved ones informing us that a Client has since passed away.”

“At the speed things are progressing, how many more survivors will pass away before a decision is made about compensating them? It’s time for the Crown Prosecution Service to put an end to the stalling and finally allow more people to receive some form of justice.”

    Going forwards

As always, we are doing all we can to raise awareness of this situation. We are very grateful to ITV News Tyne Tees for having us into the studio to discuss this increasingly urgent matter, and we hope that such media exposure will put pressure on those responsible to come to a decision, enabling those who are rightfully entitled to claim for compensation.

Is it time for me to seek help and bring a claim?
