A young woman with severe cerebral palsy was scaled around the genitals by a hot shower as she was hoisted under it by a nurse, according to family who reported it to The Metro.
The twenty-one-year-old patient, Maeylines Quinones, was left with burns to her genitalia and backside after the nurse visited her home in New Jersey in 2019. The nurse hoisted her patient under the showerhead and proceeded to leave her beneath the flow of scalding-hot water, it was alleged.
Maeylines’ mother was the one who rushed her daughter, who is unable to speak, to the hospital after she returned home from work as she noticed that she had a rapid heartbeat, and doctors then discovered her burns.
Vanessa, Maeylines’ mother, stated:
“I have to look at it daily as I change her diaper. I don’t know how anybody could do that to my child.”
Maeylines’ family is now suing the nurse’s employer, Bayada Home Health Care, for negligence. The nurse, Veronica Sandoval, was charged with endangerment.
A response from a spokesman of Bayada Home Health Care said:
“At Bayada Home Health Care, the safety of our clients is our highest priority. ‘Our nurses have provided care for this client for more than four years, and they remain fully committed to ensuring she has all the necessary care required to make a full recovery and to remain in the comfort and safety of home.
“We continue to have the privilege of serving this client, and we are grateful to her and her family for their trust in our care.”
