Khalid Hussain (56) from Leeds was sentenced to 24 years at Leeds Crown Court on Monday 7 April for ten sexual offences, including five rape offences committed against a then young girl more than a decade ago.
The jury was informed that between 2010 and 2014, Hussain had committed crimes against a young victim.
At a trial at Leeds Crown Court in October 2024, a jury found the 56-year-old guilty of all offences.
He was remanded in custody pending his sentencing yesterday.
The Leeds Safeguarding Team launched an inquiry when the survivor initially reported the offence in March 2020.
Police have commended the victim’s “incredible bravery” for coming forward as an adult and then supporting the prosecution against Hussain.
Hussain was first arrested shortly after the first report was made.
DC Bernadette Cooper, the case’s investigating officer stated:
“The victim in this case has shown incredible bravery in coming forward and making the report to police,”
“It has been an extraordinarily long and difficult period for her, yet she has remained consistent in her support of the investigation so that we can look at the matter thoroughly and impartially.”
On Monday April 7, Bernadette added: “Hussain’s offences have quite simply been appalling, and we welcome his sentencing today.”
The investigation officer pleads “Regardless of when the offence occurred, we always encourage all victims of sexual assault to come forward. Every case is carefully and empathetically looked into, and we can assist in connecting victims with partner organisations for any support they may need.”
If you are a survivor of abuse in the past, whether that be sexual abuse or physical assault, you may be entitled to claim compensation for the impact it had upon your health.
A claim can be made for the physical impact to your health but also, and often more importantly, it can also be made for any damage it may have caused to your mental health. Compensation can be claimed for personal injury and also any financial losses you may have suffered as a result of your ill health.
It is very unlikely that you will have to face your abuser, either in court or at any point in the claim.
Most claims are brought against the institution or organisation rather than the individual abuser themselves.
The claim will be handled by the organisation’s insurers or solicitors. It is unusual for the person who abused you to have to give evidence in a civil case.
The CICA is a government-funded authority that aims to compensate blameless victims of an assault or other violent crimes. It was originally formed in 1996 with the sole purpose of providing compensation to blameless victims of violent crime.
The value of compensation that it offers for a single injury can vary from £1,000 up to £250,000, with a maximum total payment of £500,000 being available for a CICA claim.
After sustaining an assault, we understand that the last thing an individual wants to do is progress down a stressful claims experience.
At Oakwood Solicitors, we want to take away the stress of progressing with an assault claim while also helping you obtain the compensation to which you are entitled.
We will agree to work on your CICA claim on a ‘no-win, no-fee’ basis.
