Statistics show that probate application delays are still longer than average, despite a slight decrease from the previous month.

Data from HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) shows that the delay decreased from 15.4 weeks to 15.2 in October, but this still remains above the 12-month average.

Probate application delays continue

The figures come after 27,664 grants of probate were issued in October, with the average timeline from submission to grant taking 15.2 weeks. But despite the slight decrease from the previous month, this is still an increase from the 13.9 weeks recorded in June this year.

Meanwhile, the average wait for non-stopped applications in October was 10.2 weeks. This shows a small decrease from September, but is still above the 8.9 week wait in July this year.

According to the statistics, 20,068 of the grants issued were digital. But, stopped digital applications, delays sat at 22.1 weeks in October – up from the previous month (21.6 weeks).

Meanwhile, the remaining 7,596 probate grants in July were issued via paper. The average wait between submission and grant for a paper application was 19.8 weeks, down from 21.2 in September. And stopped paper applications, the wait decreased from 31.2 weeks to 28-weeks in October.

Figures also show that non-stopped applications also decreased slightly, down from a 16.6-week wait in September to a 16.1-week wait in October.
