A surgeon at Southmead Hospital in Bristol has been suspended from completing further reconstructive surgery including Starr Procedures and Mesh Rectopexy following numerous reports from patients who have been left in agonising pain. An NHS investigation is currently ongoing.
The specialist Medical Negligence Team at Oakwood Solicitors have been instructed by former patients of Mr. Dixon who underwent colorectal surgery at Southmead Hospital and the Spire Hospital, Bristol, to seek recompense for the pain and suffering they have endured following surgery.
Victims have reported that mesh insertion was completed by Mr. Dixon without their consent and they only became aware of this after the operation had been completed. Substantial reconstructive surgery will now be required to repair and treat the victims affected.
Others report that the surgery was completed to such a poor standard that their lives will never be the same again.

One of Oakwood Solicitors’ clients comments:
“Since having a ventral mesh rectopexy for a bowel prolapse, first at the Spire hospital and then again at Southmead Hospital, I’ve suffered with increasing pain, discomfort, blockages and even more prolapsing. The effects of this surgery have been detrimental and often humiliating, leaving my working life, personal life and social life in ruin.
“I’ve recently reached out to Oakwood Solicitors for help. Living with Aspergers Syndrome, I’m already prone to depression, anxiety and fatigue, however, Oakwood Solicitors have been compassionate, whilst compressing a wealth of knowledge into easily understandable fragments for me to comprehend.
“I sincerely hope that there are not many who have been suffering with similar situations to myself, but for those who are, I would highly recommend speaking with Oakwood Solicitors Ltd.”
Lauren Heppell, Specialist Clinical Negligence Solicitor at Oakwood Solicitors comments:
“ It is deeply concerning that patients are being treated in this manner and operations are being-completed without proper consent.
“I believe there are many other victims who may, unfortunately, be suffering from the same life-changing consequences of the rectal mesh surgery, these injuries should not have occurred and I encourage anyone who has suffered following surgery to come forward and seek our help.
“I am committed to identifying where standards may have fallen short to prevent the same mistakes from happening in the future.”
