He was given first aid treatment in store and rushed to hospital but unfortunately, despite treatment, police have now confirmed that the boy has died from his injuries.
Chief Inspector Rob Huddleston, the District Commander for Colchester, thanked the members of the public and staff in-store for “going above and beyond” to assist the police.

It has been confirmed that the incident remains under investigation and the store closed its doors on the 4th of August for a sign of respect. The director of the store, Mia Fenwick, stated that the company is working closely with the local authorities to understand how the accident happened.
Following the incident, a Go Fund Me page has been set up by members of the community to support the family. So far over £4000 has been raised by 200 donors.
If you suffer an accident in a public place, then the owners of the property may be liable to pay you compensation under the Occupiers’ Liability Act 1957. In the year ending in 2020 it was found that there were over 83,000 cases settled and over 72,000 new claims commenced.
Although compensation can never repair the damage an accident may cause, it can ease the strain off a person in a time of financial difficulty and it can be seen as a form of justice.
A compensation claim can assist a person obtaining private treatment to speed up their recovery or it can repay their loss of wages, medication or travel expenses. In addition, if a person’s injuries prevent them from completing their DIY, gardening, self-care or household chores, then it may be possible to claim back some funds to cover any assistance provided by a professional, friend or family member (even if this was gratuitous).
