Distressing pictures and audio have been circling social media – the picture shows the 18 year old student to be bruised and covered in blood and the audio includes a conversation between a man and a woman which allegedly records the brutal attack.

Since this information has come to light, Greenwood has been arrested and detained in order to be questioned in regards to the alleged rape and assault. Currently Greenwood remains in custody and Greater Manchester Police are carrying out their investigations, with forensic officers arriving at Greenwood’s home yesterday evening.
Greenwood has now been suspended from Manchester United until further notice with the club making the statement: ‘We are aware of images and allegations circulating on social media. We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established. Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind.’
Under the Criminal Injuries Compensation (CICA) scheme, victims of domestic abuse can be awarded between £2,000 – £8,200 depending on the severity of their injuries. The CICA explain how they make awards for this within the scheme: ‘where a person has sustained a number of injuries as part of a pattern of abuse, payment will normally be made to reflect the pattern of abuse, based on the most serious injuries in the pattern, rather than each separate injury.’
Victims of sexual assault are also able to claim through the CICA scheme and it is considered in a similar way to domestic abuse, as explained above. Within the scheme, there are awards for non-penetrative and penetrative assault ranging between £1,000 – £44,000 in the most serious of cases.
The higher awards on this scale are awarded to victims that, as a result of the abuse, are diagnosed with a disabling mental illness confirmed by a psychiatric prognosis or a serious internal bodily injury.
If you have been a victim of abuse and would like advice as to whether you can claim through the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme, our Criminal Injuries Department at Oakwood Solicitors would be happy to help.
