    23rd anniversary of asbestos ban

    13:53, 24/11/2022

Home » News & Knowledge » 23rd anniversary of asbestos ban

Today marks the 23rd Anniversary since the ban on the use and sale of asbestos came into force in the UK, 24 November 1999.

The sad truth of this anniversary is that whilst the use and sale of asbestos is banned, it is still present in approximately 1.5 million public building across the UK. Every year thousands of peoples deaths are recorded as a result of asbestos, namely through the development of mesothelioma.

    Anniversary of asbestos ban

For example, 2,544 mesothelioma deaths were recorded in 2020 with some parts of the UK recording more deaths than others. This figure does not count the other countless diseases which also result in death as a result of asbestos exposure, such as other lung cancers, COPD, Pulmonary Fibrosis and Pleural Thickening.

There are many families out there seeking help and assistance from friends and families of those diagnosed with this terminal disease to ensure they have as much information to ensure their claim is successful and they are appropriately compensated for the loss of a loved one. If you can help any of those seeking assistance we would urge you to.

If you personally have previously been exposed to asbestos and are suffering with any breathing complaints we would urge you to seek the urgent advice of a doctor followed swiftly by the advice of a solicitor.

The sooner you act on those symptoms the better for you own health, and for your chances of having a successful claim in the event you are eligible to make one.
