Johnathan Wileman has recently been discussing his medical diagnosis which didn’t make the recent edit of the show.

He was diagnosed with Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) in 2018, having worked as a joiner, which was directly as a result of the use of power tools which produce excessive vibration levels.

The condition itself has the following symptoms:

    • Tingling and numbness in fingers
    • Loss of feeling in your fingers
    • Loss of strength in your hands
    • Tips of fingers turning white (especially in cold and damp conditions)

These symptoms are usually temporary and last for a matter of minutes or hours. However if a person suffering with these symptoms continues to use vibration tools unchecked and unmanaged the symptoms can be permanent resulting in disability.

Johnathan has opened up about the effects of HAVS, not just the symptoms about but about his ability to work and the impact this has had on his mental health.

More details of Johnathan’s interview can be found in the Mirror’s article.

It very much appears that Johnathan opened up about his condition to the show’s producers and his new wife on the show however this doesn’t appear to have made the final cut. This is of course a huge shame as it would have done huge amounts to raise awareness of a condition that many, mainly men, suffer with in silence.

Medically HAVS is known as Secondary Raynaud’s and many people suffer with the same symptoms when diagnosed with Primary Raynaud’s. Primary Raynaud’s effects both men and women tends to cause very similar symptoms, but without the use of vibrations tools.

As we are now well into the throws of winter many people will be beginning to suffer with periods of symptoms as described above. If you do suffer with any of the above symptoms and have to presently do work with vibration tools please do consider seeking a medical diagnosis.

Please also urgently seek legal advice as this may be a condition that changes your life and we are here to ensure that you do not lose out as a result.

    Usual bit about claiming.
