William Harvey Hospital has announced there will be no gas and air for mums in labour for the coming weeks.
In the wake of a report that has revealed 45 baby deaths could have been prevented at East Kent Hospital NHS University Trust, the maternity ward is in the press again.
Gas and air is commonly used during active labour to ease the pain. However, there is an issue with ventilation in the maternity ward which means that gas and air will not be available. The lack of gas and air will be expected to last around 2 weeks.
The Hospital has noted that there will be other methods of pain relief available and anyone due to give birth is advised to speak to her midwife about their options.

What is hospital negligence?
The hospital should be a place where harm is treated however unfortunately, the hospital is often the place where harm occurs.

Who can bring about a claim?
The victim of the negligence can bring about a claim in their own right. However, it is often sadly the case that the victim is either unable to bring about a claim or has sadly passed away.
In such circumstances, a claim can be brought about on their behalf either by an appropriate person or friend if the victim is still with us, or by the executor of the estate of a surviving dependent if the victim has passed.
