May is Huntington’s Disease Awareness Month.

The Huntington’s Disease Association has called for better help and support for those living with the condition.

A small recent poll has found that of 105 people questioned with the condition – 85% had attempted to access community mental health services, but 56% had been denied access to care. This has left many confused, angry and upset with the lack of support.

    Huntington's Disease Awareness Month

Local mental health services have turned away people with Huntington’s disease as it “doesn’t fall under the remit of what they’re able to provide for”. This will have ultimately led to many who suffer from Huntington’s disease being left with nowhere else to turn with regard to their mental health.

It may be possible to bring about a Medical Negligence claim for lack of mental health treatment so this could be incorrectly be withheld resulting in a determine impact on people’s lives.

The Huntington’s Disease Association have launched a new campaign, Mindful of Huntington’s, to raise awareness of the mental health impact that having the incurable disease can cause.

If you or a loved one have been affected by mental health issues and lack of correct and adequate mental health treatment, then please feel free to contact us.
