Armed Forces Day is here to pay tribute to the service men and women who go above and beyond to protect our country.

The annual event is held on the last Saturday of June every year, to celebrate all that troops do, as they put their lives at risk every day to ensure the British public is kept safe.

    Armed Forces Day

At Oakwood Solicitors Ltd, we often see military members come to us after sustaining injuries during their time in service. Now, we want to celebrate and thank them for their tireless work.

When is Armed Forces Day 2024?

Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the last Saturday of every June. This year it falls on June 29th, but celebrations kicked off on June 24th for a week-long commemoration.

The date was originally chosen to be the day after the anniversary of the first investiture of the Victoria Cross, in Hyde Park, London in 1857. The Victoria Cross is the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.

The last Victoria Cross was awarded back in 2012 to Joshua Leakey, for his brave actions taken during the War in Afghanistan.

Who is Armed Forces Day for?

The Armed Forces is made up of the Royal Navy (including the Marines), the British Army and the Royal Air Force.  The military services are responsible for the defence of the United Kingdom, its residents, overseas territories and the Crown dependencies.

Armed Forces Day is a chance for members of the public to celebrate and show their support for all service personnel, past and present.

How to celebrate Armed Forces Day

Events are being held across the country to celebrate Armed Forces Day. In Leeds, a series of events are due to commence in Leeds city centre, including a parade, stalls, stands and exhibitions from 11am–4pm. The Army, Navy and Air Force will all be present.

I’m in the Armed Forces – Can Oakwood Solicitors Ltd help me?

As a law firm, we often hear from members of the armed forces after sustaining injuries during training or in active duty. We can help you claim compensation for your military injuries, or if you have sustained military deafness.

The Ministry of Defence is one of the largest employers in the UK, employing over 150,000 personnel in both combat roles in the Army, Air Force and Navy and in civilian roles.

Members of the MOD in combat roles are often exposed to high levels of noise in live firing exercises, dummy fire exercises and drills which have the potential to damage their hearing in the short and long term.

It has become clear over recent years that there are thousands of past MOD employee and some current that are suffering with their hearing and/or have tinnitus as a result and now realise they are able to seek compensation for their loss.

    Military deafness

Military deafness claims are like many other hearing loss claims in that we need to take a detailed account from the potential claimant, seek to consider appropriate medical evidence to prove your losses and then look to settle on your behalf.

We obtain their information from you remotely, and should you wish to discuss a potential case it is always best to speak to one of our industrial disease specialists to obtain more information.
