A carer is a person who helps a family member, friend or partner who is unable to manage with everyday tasks due to a disability, illness, being elderly, mental health issue or addiction.

You will be eligible for a Free Carers Leeds Emergency Card even if you do not live with the person who requires your care, if you are not the only person providing care for someone, if you care for more than one person or where you are not related to the person you care for.
The Carers Leeds Emergency Card has been introduced for use in emergencies to show that someone relies on you to care for them.
The card should be kept with you at all times and will contain details of an alternative carer in case you are unavailable to provide the care (this may be another family member or friend of the person requiring care).
If you hold power of attorney for someone who has now lost capacity, an Emergency Card may also be beneficial for you should you be unable to act in a case of emergency.
It may prompt the person who sees the card to alert other attorneys, replacement attorneys or the correct authority so that someone may take your place in assisting with the person’s property and financial affairs or health and welfare matters.
Applications for a Carers Leeds Emergency Card can be made via their website by filling in the application form here.
