Two teenage lovers electrocuted by a faulty McDonald’s drinks machine had just finished secondary school in the Peruvian capital, Lima, having both found jobs at their local chain of the fast-food outlet. The pair had been working there for around six months.
The girl was working with the drinks machine when she suffered an electric shock. Her other half was also electrocuted when trying to help her. In has been reported that there were live wires exposed in the kitchens, due to this, the drinks machine was faulty resulting in the fatality of two teenagers.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident. Witness statements are being taken from management, staff members and any other witnesses to the incident. There are further inspections of the restaurant’s electrical facilities, the security systems, the prevention of accidents at work and the conditions the victims were working under at the time of the incident.
Electric shock accidents can cause extreme long-lasting injuries. These include burns or long-term nerve damage, and in worse cases, death. If you or a family member has been involved in an accident that could have been prevented, you may be entitled to claim compensation for you or on behalf of the injured person.
If the incident has resulted in a fatality, you will still be able to claim compensation on their behalf. Furthermore, if the deceased party was a spouse, civil partner or parent if the child is under 18, you may be entitled to claim statutory damages known as a bereavement award (currently £12,980)
Employers have a responsibility to minimise the risk of the employees suffering an electric shock. The way employers can do this is by regularly checking and maintaining equipment, supplying appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
