    Children’s Toys Could Cause Blindness

    Children’s Toys Could Cause Blindness
The laser lights used in toys could cause health issues and even blindness according to authorities.
The FDA (The U.S. Food and Drug Administration) have warned that toys which contain small lasers could cause permanent eye damage.
These injuries can go undetected for periods of time because they don’t hurt.
An FDA health promotion officer outlined the toys that usually contain the lasers that cause damage to the eye. He said that the lasers the are used to aim on toy guns spinning tops that project beams hand held lasers such as lightsabers and lasers used for visual effects.
He felt that advertisers were to blame for parents not knowing the dangers of these objects as they are marketed as ‘playthings’ and went on to warn that parents need to be more careful when selecting toys.
Mr Hewitt said that over the past couple of years the power of lasers has got stronger and the price has dropped.
The FDA have recommended that no one shines lasers straight at a person or animal or onto a reflective surface.
Sometimes the light energy from a laser pointed at someone’s eye can be more damaging than staring at the sun.
