Brighton & Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust have the Worst A&E Waiting times in the Country

A Sussex NHS Trust has been called the worst in England for A&E waiting times with patient waiting more than 12 hours to be seen.

Worst A&E Waiting times

Statistics from the Health Service Journal showed that since January 2013 the Brighton and Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust recorded that 52 patients waited 12 hours or more to be seen.

The NHS Trust has said that their A&E waiting times from January to March 2013 were unacceptable.

The Trust said that in the past 6 weeks waiting times have improved and that there had been no waiting times of 12 hours or more.

The NHS has released a statement:

“In the last 3 months of 2012-2013 (January to March 2013) a number of external factors and system difficulties resulted in an unacceptably high number of patients waiting longer than we would want in our emergency departments following a decision to admit them”.

It said it had implemented a reorganisation plan to address “varied and complex” issues that caused it and rebuild systems.
