Husband Accuses Peterborough Hospital of Failing to Diagnose His Pregnant Wife’s Dangerous Condition
Rich Soper’s wife Emma contracted the rare bacterial infection necrotising fasciitis after receiving treatment at Peterborough City Hospital.
Mr Soper told the BBC that his wife was in the early stages of her pregnancy and initially attended hospital but was sent home. Emma was called back the next day and underwent emergency surgery for an ectopic pregnancy.
Emma was discharged two days after her surgery but she soon became ill again.
After being readmitted she was diagnosed with necrotising fasciitis and has since been transferred to the intensive care unit at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
Rich Soper told the BBC that Peterborough City Hospital had “failed” his wife and went on to praise her current care providers.
“If it wasn’t for her fantastic care that she’s receiving at Addenbrooke’s I could well be sitting here grieving the loss of my wife.”
The director of care quality and chief nurse at Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Chris Wilkinson told the BBC.
“We are looking in to her case in great detail. We will share the finding of our investigation with Mrs Soper and her husband.”
