The Compensation Experts have revealed the top ten locations within the UK which have the highest number of accidents on the road and in the workplace, using data from The Office of National Statistics and the Health and Safety Executive.
The rankings have been calculated based on the city’s population and its accidents per capita:
- Kingston Upon Hull was ranked the highest, with 603 road traffic accidents reported in 2021 and 207 accidents being in the workplace, totalling 910 accidents throughout the year.
- Peterborough was then second with 327 road traffic accidents and 232 accidents in the workplace, sustaining 559 accidents in total.
- Portsmouth was third with 427 road traffic accidents and 142 accidents in the workplace.
- Nottingham was fourth with 553 road traffic accidents and 319 accidents in the workplace.
- London had an eye watering 49,386 road traffic accidents and 23,448 accidents in the workplace in 2020. However, its ratio of accidents to population made the city rank fifth.
- Wakefield suffered 387 road traffic accidents and 451 accidents in the workplace, ranking the city the highest in the Yorkshire region.
- Derby had 605 accidents in 2021, broken down as 415 road traffic accidents and 190 accidents at work.
- Brighton sustained 553 road traffic accidents and 131 accidents in the workplace.
- Birmingham had 2653 accidents, ranking it as the city with the second highest number of accidents in 2021 overall on the list. 1802 were road traffic accidents and 851 accidents were in the workplace.
- Lastly, Wolverhampton had 376 road traffic accidents and 238 accidents in the workplace.
It should however be noted that the figures are based on the number of accidents reported and therefore the correct number of accidents per area may be much higher.
