National press releases have reported that up to 600 patients are to be recalled by a Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust after concerns were raised about shoulder operations performed by Mr Shah.

Following surgery at Walsall Manor Hospital by Mian Munawar Shah, some patients have lost use of their arms. Shah has been suspended and a helpline has been established by the hospital trust. Many letters will be sent to patients who might have been affected.

After a review, some patients who had procedures performed by Mr. Shah discovered that they had been unnecessary or incorrectly carried out.

Numerous patients have expressed their “continuous pain” and inability to raise their arms or grasp objects. According to some, it has negatively impacted their mental health to the point where they are on the verge of suicide.

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) has issued the surgeon with an interim order prohibiting him from performing further operations or shoulder joint replacements without supervision.

Dr. Manjeet Shehmar, the medical director at the Walsall trust, told the BBC that multidisciplinary team meetings had not been held and that some of the treatments should have been done in an orthopaedic facility with specialised equipment rather than at Walsall Manor.

In addition to offering his sincere apologies, Mr. Loughton, CEO of Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust and interim CEO of Walsall Trust stated that he had “personally met with some of those patients and I am painfully aware of the terrible consequences that this has had on them and how in many cases it has ruined their lives.”

According to a spokesman for Spire Healthcare, Mr. Munawar Shah hasn’t practised at Spire Little Aston since March 2020.

If you or a loved one have been affected by poor care from Mr Shah or any other surgeon, you may be entitled to seek compensation for the pain and suffering you have endured, together with any losses either past or future, such as loss of earnings. If you feel you have been affected please feel free to contact us on 0113 200 9720 for a no obligation conversation.
