Woman speaks out after COVID vaccine left her hospitalised

A woman who suffered from chronic health complications after taking the AstraZeneca COVID vaccine, claims that Facebook has blocked her from sharing her story online.

Caroline Pover received the jab in March 2021, but within nine hours, she experienced convulsions, low blood pressure and breathing problems.

As her condition worsened to ‘stroke-like’ symptoms, Ms. Pover, from Cirencester, Gloucestershire was hospitalised, as she suffered from migraines and a racing heart. After suffering, Ms. Pover, who is a freelance journalist, shared her story with a national newspaper, to warn others of the symptoms she experienced.

But after sharing the link to the story on her Facebook feed, the social media website put a warning on her account which stated that the post ‘goes against’ community standards in misinformation and could cause ‘physical harm.’

    Ms. Pover said:

‘When I posted the Daily Express article, which did an excellent job of not discussing anything pro or anti… I received a warning and the post was hidden.

‘It’s a ridiculous situation for vaccine-injured people, who have a right to information

“’If this was an online support group relating to cancer or another type of serious condition, we’d be outraged at the thought of it being censored and we’d be very sensitive to people having to navigate a very complicated health situation.”

Ms. Pover also said that a group page she was an admin of was also ‘completely shut down’ by Facebook in the summer of 2021. And when she started sharing daily updates about her condition in March 2021 she started to notice ‘little notes’ appearing on ‘anything relating to the vaccine’.

“People would tag me in posts and complain that they weren’t getting any traction. I’d say to them, ‘don’t tag me, it will just disappear if you do,’” she said.

Ms. Pover claims she was subsequently ‘shadow banned’ on Facebook and that often, her posts failed to appear in the timelines of her friends and family.

“The physical health struggles we face aren’t just what happens in the minutes, hours or days immediately after injection; it’s what we are still dealing with years later, as well as the impact of being censored.” she said.

Ms. Pover added that she and 800 others struggled to claim the Government’s Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme (VDPS) which is in place to help people who have been left disabled as a result of a vaccine.

    Covid Vaccine Damage Payment

If you have been left severely disabled as a result of a vaccine you may be entitled to a one-off government payment. The vaccine damage payment is a one-off tax-free payment of £120,000.

    Eligibility

You could get a payment if you’re severely disabled and your disability was caused by vaccination against any of the following diseases:

    • coronavirus (COVID-19)
    • diphtheria
    • haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib)
    • human papillomavirus
    • influenza, except for influenza caused by a pandemic influenza virus
    • measles
    • meningococcal group B (meningitis B)
    • meningococcal group C (meningitis C)
    • meningococcal group W (meningitis W)
    • mumps
    • pandemic influenza A (H1N1) 2009 (swine flu) – up to 31 August 2010
    • pertussis (whooping cough)
    • pneumococcal infection
    • poliomyelitis
    • rotavirus
    • rubella (German measles)
    • smallpox – up to 1 August 1971
    • tetanus
    • tuberculosis (TB)

You may have had a combined vaccination against a number of the diseases listed. For example, you might have been vaccinated against DTP (diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis) or MMR (measles, mumps and rubella).

You may also be able to get a payment if you’re severely disabled because either:

    • Your mother was vaccinated against one of the diseases in the list while she was pregnant
    • You’ve been in close physical contact with someone who’s had an oral vaccine against poliomyelitis

    What counts as ‘severely disabled’

Disablement is worked out as a percentage, and ‘severe disablement’ means at least 60% disabled.

This could be a mental or physical disablement and will be based on medical evidence from the doctors or hospitals involved in your treatment.

When and where the vaccination must have taken place?

You must normally have been vaccinated before your 18th birthday, unless the vaccination was during an outbreak of disease in the UK or the Isle of Man, or it was against:

    • Coronavirus (COVID-19)
    • Poliomyelitis
    • Rubella
    • Meningococcal group C
    • Human papillomavirus
    • Pandemic influenza A (H1N1) 2009 (swine flu)
    • Meningococcal group W before your 26th birthday
    • Influenza

The vaccination must have been given in the UK or the Isle of Man, unless you were vaccinated as part of your armed forces medical treatment.

    Medical Negligence claim

In addition to making a Vaccine Damage Payment claim via the government scheme, you can also make a legal medical negligence claim if you have been harmed by a vaccine. To submit a claim, you must manage the estate of the person who has died.

What is the time limit for a claim?

Claims can only be made for a child once they are 2 years old.

For claims made for an adult, apply by whichever is the latest of the following dates:

    • On or before their 21st birthday (of if they’ve died, the date they would have reached 21)
    • Within 6 years of the vaccination
