Women misdiagnosed – Campaigners consider that women’s symptoms are being ignored by GPs

The Women’s Health Wales coalition have stated that women are often misdiagnosed or have to push for a diagnosis.

The BBC has reported women often feel ‘dismissed’ and ‘fobbed off’ whether this be in relation to a heart attack, UTI, strokes and tumors.

    Women Misdiagnosed

    The coalition have called for:

    • Greater focus on women’s health in medical training
    • Health data to be broken down by protected characteristics
    • Equitable access to health care

The delays that some women are facing result in avoidable and prolonged periods of pain and suffering and possibly even fatal consequences. There are reports of women being told that the pain and symptoms that they have are experiencing are “normal part of female experience” rather than investigating the causes further.

Investigations are an integral part of understanding the symptoms that women are facing and getting an earlier diagnosis can result in early treatment and faster recovery.

If you or a loved one have been affected by a delayed or misdiagnosis, you may be entitled to seek compensation for the pain and suffering you have endured, together with any losses either past or future, such as loss of earning. If you feel you have been affected, please feel free to contact us on 0113 200 9720 for a no obligation conversation.
