The Huntercombe Group are under scrutiny and investigation again following further allegations of poor treatment.

The Care Quality Commission is starting a review of Active Care Group next March. Active Care Group is the owner of Huntercombe Group. This is following confirmation that Thames Valley Police have launched an investigation after a report of rape made by a former patient.

    Review of Active Care Group

Over 50 people have reported allegations of poor treatment and there are nine legal claims from former patients, allegations of such include the use of sedative medication as a form of control, inappropriate force when tube feeding along with allegations of sexual abuse.

The Huntercombe Group have been exposed by The Independent and Sky News which found that ‘systemic abuse’ went unchecked at the hospitals within this group.

There is a call for a national review of mental health services being made by Labour’s shadow mental health secretary.

If you or a loved one have been affected by poor treatment received at a mental health hospital or institution, then please feel free to contact us.

What warning signs may indicate institutional abuse?

Whether it is the NHS or private healthcare, medical professionals owe a duty of care towards a patient to prevent any abuse towards them. Some red flags can include:

    • Lack of adequate physical care (such as lack of washing)
    • Insufficient staffing leading to poor/lack of care
    • Lack of dignity and respect
    • Withholding care or medication
    • In more extreme cases – emotional, physical and sexual abuse
