    Bad Dentistry Costs Practice £10,000

A woman from Stourbridge has been awarded £10,000 in compensation for substandard dental work, after receiving ill-fitting bridgework from Dr. Richard Cockram of Kingswinford Health Centre Dental Suite.

Further decay as a result of this treatment has resulted in the need for two teeth to be extracted, plus an implant to fill the gap left behind. The patient, Mandy Vanes, who was a patient at the practice between 2009 and 2017, stated:

“As soon as the bridge was fitted I knew it wasn’t right. I looked in the mirror when I got in the car and was shocked at my reflection. The bridge was too big for my mouth and it was the wrong colour. I wasn’t happy.”

The bridge didn’t fit properly from the start, and it fell out a couple of times before she had to have it re-cemented. After this, it held in place for just twenty-four hours before it came loose once again.

The case was picked up by the Dental Law Partnership, who uncovered that the dentist had failed to correctly advise on more suitable treatments available, as well as failing to replace the bridge in a timely manner. He had also failed to treat tooth decay that was visible on X-rays as far back as 2012.

Ms. Vanes had to take various holidays to accommodate all her appointments, and dealing with phone calls as part of her job became difficult due to her ill-fitting bridgework. Her representative stated:

“The distress and pain our client has experienced was completely unnecessary. If the dentist had carried out adequate care in the first place, significant problems could have been avoided.”

If you have suffered at the hands of substandard dental treatment, you too could be entitled to compensation for consequent health problems or financial losses. Our specialist Medical Negligence team may be able to help.
