Roughly 91% of remote and hybrid workers believe that their pets have a positive effect on their physical and mental health.
Survey results show that two-thirds of respondents (roughly 65%) would not consider accepting a job in future that didn’t offer the ability to work in some form of hybrid or remote environment.
This new study was conducted by TrustedHousesitters, which asked over 2,000 respondents to share their thoughts about how their pets affect their working environment when working from home.
Nine out of ten respondents (equating to 91% of those who participated) believed that working whilst having their animals with them helped to reduce their stress, with 50% saying that their pets helped to reduce their feelings of loneliness. With 58% of workers in the UK reportedly feeling lonely at work, it’s great to see that pets offer some relief from this.
The findings also noted that 44% of those asked said that having their pet around encouraged them to stick to a strict routine whilst working around their animals, with 66% (or two-thirds) saying that it was beneficial to mental health, as their pets got them outdoors at least once per day. Having such a break allowed for some fresh air, a change of scenery, and some exercise.
It was also found that people believed that their pets offered them a better work-life balance whilst managing their pets, with 49% saying that having to attend to their needs gave them a break from their screens.
A representative of the survey provider stated:
“This research proves that when it comes to improving the mental health of remote workers, pets are the perfect partners . They provide companionship and help facilitate a much-needed balance between virtual work and life.
“The impact pets have on the home working experience helps explain why remote workers and digital nomads continue to be so active on TrustedHousesitters, with over half – or 54% – of remote and hybrid respondents saying they pet-sit at least once a month or more. If you’ve got a case of remote working blues, pet-sitting makes for the perfect cure.”
