There are, however, a few things that you can do to try and reduce the risk of RSI or to reduce how severe your symptoms may become.
You should have regular breaks form a repetitive movement to try and reduce and eliminate any risk to your health and safety. Your employers should generally have in place risk assessment to ensure you are working to safe systems of work.
By using the correct posture for a certain task, this could reduce the risk of injuries. Is the task better done sitting or standing, or a combination of both? Are you having to lean over or stretch whilst doing the task?
Again, your employer should have done a risk assessment to ensure that the method in which you are doing your work is as far possible the safest way to do it.
If your symptoms are developing in your joints such as your wrists, etc – you may be able to purchase supports to help you with the pain. Although it must be stressed that you should not solely rely upon supports, and your symptoms should continue to be monitored and you should continue to take regular breaks.
This may sound obvious but by undertaking a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and a good health diet can help against RSI. It may not avoid it in a whole but could reduce the impact of RSI symptoms
If you are noticing problems that you believe are due to RSI it is important you act as quickly as possible to try and reduce the impact. Go to your Doctors and they may be able to refer you onto physiotherapy.
If you are working, talk to your employer as they may have occupational health department they can refer you to. Also they may be able to amend your duties to try and minimise any ongoing symptoms.
