After the year which has been 2020, we are all looking forward to a break over the festive period and although it will not be a usual Christmas, there are still lots of things you can do to make sure that you find time to relax and recharge.

Take a look at our top-ten tips for relaxation this Christmas, and have a great festive season!

Christmas

1) People

Christmas is about not what’s under the Christmas tree but who is around it. This year, there will be less people around our tress so taking time to see our loved ones virtually or arranging to speak to them over the phone is ever more important. Connection with friends and family is a well-known mood booster and can bring lots of comfort and joy.

2) A good read

Whether you enjoy a lengthy novel, a short story or a trashy magazine, finding time to read can really help you switch off from the stress of the real work and help distract your mind. Reading is a great way to unwind at the end of a busy day.

3) Getting out and about

Whilst of course socially distancing, getting outside for a good walk in the fresh air and with nature is another great way to feel physically and mentally better. Even a short 15 or 20 walk around the block will help elevate your mood.

4) Food

A particular comfort especially around Christmas time, planning a favourite meal or getting in your favourite snacks can help you relax and focus your busy mind on just enjoying the moment. Over the festive season, it’s a good excuse to give yourself some freedom to enjoy good food and have something a little special.

5) Giving back

Giving can be one of the most rewarding experiences to have. To see someone’s else mood light up because of a gift you may have given them or kind favour you may have helped them with will also light up your own mood.

Giving doesn’t have to be expensive – a homemade treat or card sent in the post are lovely acts of kindness that can really make someone’s day.

6) Review

Take the end of the year to review and evaluate what achievements you may have made and think about what goals you’d like to set yourself in the New Year. Make sure to give yourself credit for the things you have achieved and accomplished – even if it’s someone small.

Formal resolutions can be hard to stick to but some thought as to what you’d like to focus on in the coming year is a great way to focus your mind and let go of any stresses of the previous year.

7) Know your limitations

No is a complex word, and using ‘no’ can often feel difficult. If you feel as though you are spreading yourself too thin then it’s down to you to make sure that you protect your boundaries and keep yourself free of too much pressure to please others.

Only by keeping yourself well, can you help and support those around you.

8) Have fun

The festive season is a great excuse to get out those cheesy board games and have some fun. Laughter is truly one of the best medicines.

9) Rejuvenate

Take that long bath, get a spa treatment or even get an early night and a good night’s sleep. Taking some time to relax physically will also help recharge your mind and wellbeing.

10) Slow down

Take any pressure off yourself and just slow down. During the break, plan for time where there is no pressure to be anywhere or do anything in particular so that you can just take the day slowly.
