Displaced Intracapsular Fracture – Case Study

Home » News & Knowledge » Displaced Intracapsular Fracture – Case Study

Our client suffered a fall and experienced pain in her hip, groin and legs. Following two days of rest and use of painkillers at home, the pain in her hip and groin worsened, and she was taken to A&E with the use of a wheelchair.

Upon examination, reduced movement was noted and an x-ray was performed, but only of the pelvis. The cause of her pain was put down as an exacerbation of osteoarthritis. Our client was not informed of this and only became aware as our investigations progressed.

Our client was discharged, however had to return to her doctor due to ongoing severe pain and was advised to return to A&E due to her symptoms. She was taken to hospital immediately, and was diagnosed with a displaced intracapsular fracture, and had to undergo a total hip replacement on the right side.

    Outcome

This delay in diagnosis resulted in increased pain and suffering, and as such she was awarded £24,000 in compensation.
